Right in the heart of Burgundy vineyards South of Beaune, on a vineyard grown hillside, in the village of Santenay, stands the ‘Château’ of Santenay, an authentic castle that used to be a majestic manorial place of residence during the XIth, XIIth and XVIth centuries.

It once belonged to Philip the Bold (Philippe-le-Hardi), son of the King of France John the Good (Jean-le-Bon), and First Duke of Burgundy (1342 - 1404). This is the reason why it is commonly called « Château Philippe-le Hardi »
